Senior Asset Engineer (High Speed) [Signalling]

Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1). The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three stations;
St Pancras International, Stratford International and Ebbsfleet International. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client 'HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations – through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client. About the role

Shape the future of high-speed rail. Join Network Rail High Speed and play a leading role in the management and development of critical signalling assets. You'll provide expert asset management and engineering leadership, defining requirements that drive renewal, refurbishment and enhancement programmes across the route. Working at the heart of our engineering function, you'll develop technical specifications and acceptance criteria, ensuring solutions are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with asset policies, performance objectives and industry standards.

What

You'll Do
  • Shape route strategies and asset management plans, prioritising investment and driving works through to successful delivery.
  • Lead the development of the signalling renewal, refurbishment and enhancement workbank, using asset health information to inform future investment decisions.
  • Provide expert support throughout project delivery, ensuring requirements are met, scope is controlled and benefits are realised.
  • Act as the technical lead for signalling input into enhancement projects, ensuring compliance with company standards and asset policies.
  • Represent the Head of High Speed Engineering, signalling on review panels, providing expert analysis and recommendations on engineering proposals.
  • Ensure signalling asset records are accurate, up to date and reflect the current configuration of the railway.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, identifying root causes and driving continuous improvement.
  • Provide signalling systems engineering expertise across the route, supporting operational excellence and engineering capability.
  • Influence maintenance strategies to maximise signalling asset reliability, performance and value throughout the signalling asset lifecycle.
  • Monitor signalling asset performance and lead initiatives to improve reliability, safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Deliver technical guidance and briefings, promoting best practice and ensuring standards are understood and consistently applied.
  • Review derogations and non‑compliance requests, providing robust signalling engineering recommendations and assurance.
