Leicestershire Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 Full-Time | Onsite Automation | Robotics | Special Purpose Machinery Want to design machines that don't exist yet? If you're the type of engineer who enjoys solving problems others can't, leading projects from concept to commissioning, and seeing your designs come to life on the shop floor, this could be the role you've been waiting for.
We're working with a highly respected automation engineering business that designs and builds bespoke robotic and automated manufacturing systems for leading manufacturers across automotive, medical, healthcare and advanced industrial sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are looking to appoint a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in delivering innovative automation projects. This isn't a role where you'll be producing the same designs repeatedl y.
You'll be leading the design and delivery of complex automation projects, working on custom-built machinery, robotics integration and innovative manufacturing solutions that challenge conventional engineering thinking. The Opportunity As the lead mechanical design authority on your projects, you'll take ownership from initial concept through to customer handover.
Responsibilities include:
Leading the mechanical design of bespoke automation and special-purpose machinery projects Creating innovative design solutions using 3D CAD software such as Solid Works, Inventor, Creo or Solid Edge Driving design reviews, ensuring designs are robust, reliable, manufacturable and commercially viable Collaborating with electrical, controls, manufacturing and installation teams to deliver successful projects Working directly with customers, understanding technical requirements and turning ideas into reality Supporting machine build, commissioning and installation activities where required Mentoring and influencing engineering best practice across the wider engineering team Managing project delivery to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards About You You'll likely have experience in one or more of the following areas:
Special Purpose Machinery Industrial Automation Robotics Automated Production Equipment You'll also have: 7 years' experience within a mechanical design engineering environment Strong 3D CAD experience (Solid Edge, Solid Works, Inventor, Creo or similar) A proven track record of delivering engineering projects from concept through to completion Strong knowledge of machine design principles and machinery safety requirements Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with customers and stakeholders HNC, HND or Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
