The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Environmental Arrangements Engineer to support a major UK infrastructure programme during a significant construction phase. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a nationally important project, supporting environmental compliance, management systems, and continuous improvement across a complex engineering environment.
Working within the Environmental team, you will support the development, implementation and maintenance of the projects Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring continued compliance with ISO 14001 and environmental legislation. Youll work across multiple environmental disciplines, collaborating with engineering, delivery, procurement and assurance teams to embed environmental best practice throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Support the Environmental Arrangements Lead in maintaining and improving the Environmental Management System (EMS). Assist with maintaining ISO 14001 accreditation, including preparation for and participation in internal and external audits. Develop and maintain environmental procedures, arrangements and management plans to ensure compliance throughout construction activities. Ensure environmental and sustainability requirements are incorporated into design packages, procurement activities and construction contracts.
Support environmental aspects of incident reporting, investigations, design changes and procurement processes. Undertake environmental inspections and contribute to environmental performance monitoring, reporting and continual improvement initiatives. Act as a key point of contact for the Environmental Management System, supporting its implementation across project teams. Work closely with delivery teams, contractors and technical specialists to promote environmental compliance and best practice.
Liaise with environmental regulators and external stakeholders where required. Deputise for the Environmental Arrangements Lead when necessary. About You Were looking for an organised and proactive environmental professional who enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams and is confident influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Essential Requirements Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline. Experience working within an Environmental Management System compliant with BS EN ISO 14001:2015. Experience developing or maintaining environmental procedures and management arrangements. Good understanding of environmental permits, licences and regulatory compliance. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
High attention to detail with the ability to deliver work through to completion. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a wider project team.
Desirable Experience Experience on large infrastructure, engineering or construction projects. Knowledge of sustainability principles and environmental input into procurement, incident management or investigations. Experience working with environmental regulators. Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IEMA or equivalent). Whats on Offer Inside IR35 contract. Hybrid working with offices in Suffolk or London.
