Location: Greater London

At MICHELIN Connected Fleet, a division of the Michelin Group, leaders in sustainable mobility for 130 years, we specialise in connected fleet management services and solutions. We are a market leader with over 30 years expertise in a high-growth and competitive mobility tech industry. Today we work with 70,000 customers and over 600,000 vehicles globally, growing more than 10% per year, and entering on average 3 new markets a year.

Backed by Michelin Group and operating under the Michelin Connected Fleet name, we will be a major player in this market in the coming years.

OUR DREAM

We know our planet is at risk and we urgently need to find innovative ways to protect it. At Michelin, pioneering is what we do:
We are innovating constantly, to explore new opportunities, with, around and beyond tires to lead the way in sustainable mobility. Our people act for change, with respect, and as leaders. We care about giving people a better way forward.

Our dream is rooted in a single purpose: by 2050, Michelin will be recognised as a critical innovation leader that helped humanity conquer new frontiers. And we all work hard every day to realise this dream.

OUR PEOPLE & WAYS OF WORKING

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to work in the Michelin Connected Hardware Enablers team and lead on camera-based hardware projects.

The team is responsible for the specification, qualification and integration of AI-enabled camera hardware sourced from third-party suppliers, ensuring these products meet Michelin Connected Fleet's compliance, quality and performance standards and integrate seamlessly with our telematics.

Out telematics devices deliver accurate vehicle intelligence, reading metrics like speed, RPM, fuel consumption and odometer straight from the CAN bus. As our product line expands, AI-enabled camera systems — capable of driver monitoring, ADAS-style event detection, and onboard video analytics — will connect to and complement the telematics devices, adding a new layer of visual intelligence to our telematics offering.

This role is central to selecting, validating and integrating that camera hardware.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING:
Lead in the technical assessment and integration of third-party camera hardware, including:
  • Define hardware requirements and functional architecture for AI camera systems intended to interface with our telematics devices.
  • Review and interpret third-party supplier schematics, component selections and PCB layouts to assess design quality, robustness and suitability
  • Conduct component-level analysis of camera modules, image sensors, embedded AI/vision processors, connectors and supporting circuitry
  • Evaluate electrical, mechanical and thermal compatibility between candidate camera hardware and the telematics ecosystem
  • Specify and oversee the interface design (power, data, communication protocols) between third-party cameras and Masternaut's in-house electronics
Assess compliance and supplier suitability, including:
  • Review supplier documentation (schematics, BOMs, test reports, certification records) to verify compliance with relevant regional standards (Europe, North and South America, Australia, South Africa)
  • Carry out or coordinate the necessary certification activities (e.g. E-mark, CE, FCC, RCM) for camera products entering the telematics product family
  • Perform risk and failure mode analysis (FMEA) on third-party designs and flag design weaknesses back to suppliers
  • Define acceptance criteria and end-of-line test requirements in collaboration with camera manufacturers
  • Build and maintain a framework for ongoing supplier and product quality assessment
Contribute to the evolution of Michelin Connected Fleet’s embedded camera strategy, including:
  • Identify, analyse and resolve complex hardware integration issues between third-party cameras and telematics hardware
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap for AI camera and vision-enabled products
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement processes across supplier evaluation and integration workflows
  • Stay current on embedded AI vision hardware, image sensor technology and edge-AI processing trends relevant to fleet telematics
