Company Description

Samudra Oceans builds autonomous ocean intelligence systems for ports, harbors, and coastal infrastructure. The company’s platform combines marine robotics, edge sensors, and AI analytics to deliver continuous, real-time environmental intelligence that goes beyond legacy monitoring approaches. Its flagship product, NIRA, provides 24/7 autonomous monitoring, detecting pollution events, predicting compliance risks, and generating audit-ready reports aligned with EU and national environmental standards.

Samudra Oceans serves port authorities, terminal operators, EIA consultancies, and ESG teams seeking to move from retrospective reporting to real-time awareness. Rooted in the idea that the ocean should be measured rather than guessed at, Samudra Oceans operates at the intersection of Blue Tech, AI, and marine sustainability.

Role Description

The Head of Marine Hardware Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based in London. This position leads the design, development, and integration of marine robotics and sensing hardware for Samudra Oceans’ autonomous ocean intelligence systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing mechanical, electrical, and embedded hardware design; managing prototyping, testing, and validation of marine platforms and sensors; and ensuring reliability and safety in challenging marine environments.

The role also involves building and mentoring a multidisciplinary engineering team, collaborating closely with software, AI, and product teams to align hardware capabilities with product requirements, and establishing processes for documentation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. The Head of Marine Hardware Engineering will participate in field trials, support deployment and maintenance strategies, and contribute to the long-term hardware roadmap.

Qualifications
  • Experience leading hardware engineering teams, with strong skills in marine or industrial product development, systems integration, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical design for harsh environments (e.g., corrosion-resistant materials, waterproofing, sealing, and structural design for marine robotics and sensor housings).
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and electronics, including sensor integration, power management, communication interfaces, and hardware testing methodologies.
  • Background in ocean engineering, marine technology, robotics, or related fields, with familiarity with environmental monitoring, instrumentation, and relevant industry standards.
  • Experience managing the full hardware lifecycle: concept, prototyping, field testing, manufacturing handover, and maintenance/upgrade strategies.
  • Ability to define technical roadmaps, prioritize engineering work, and implement robust documentation, QA, and safety practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions under operational constraints.
  • Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with software, AI, product, and customer-facing teams.
