The Technology Department

The Technology team at HSCALE builds the systems, standards, and frameworks behind our hyperscale data centre platform across EMEA. We cover Design, Engineering, Commissioning, Procurement, IT & Cybersecurity, Sustainability, Compliance, and Governance.

We link innovation with delivery: setting design, procurement, and commissioning standards to accelerate new builds, while running secure, resilient IT and compliance environments. With a customer-first, commercially smart approach and strong vendor partnerships, we scale fast and build for the future.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Lead leads and represents the mechanical discipline across HSCALE's EMEA data centre development programme.

The role is accountable for mechanical design strategy, standards, and technical assurance, with a strong focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and next generation cooling technologies.

Based in Design and Engineering, the role is the mechanical authority within the Engineering Centre of Excellence and the primary interface to external mechanical consultants and internal stakeholders.

Job requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered or Professional Engineer status preferred.
  • 12 to 18 years of experience in mission critical or data centre mechanical engineering.
  • Deep expertise in cooling systems, CFD, heat transfer, and energy efficient design.
  • Demonstrated experience with high density and AI driven thermal challenges.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability targets, PUE optimisation, and operational performance.
  • Proven ability to deploy new technologies responsibly at scale.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% across EMEA.
Job responsibilities
  • Define, own, and govern HSCALE mechanical design standards, reference solutions, and engineering processes.
  • Lead mechanical system selection and key technical decisions across all projects.
  • Own mechanical inputs to the Basis of Design and ensure coordination with electrical and built environment disciplines.
  • Drive sustainable mechanical designs targeting low PUEs and alignment with HSCALE sustainability objectives.
  • Lead development and deployment of next generation cooling technologies, including liquid to chip and hybrid cooling solutions.
  • Evaluate and implement innovative mechanical systems not previously deployed in the market where risk and value are justified.
  • Provide hands on technical leadership for cooling architectures, heat rejection, controls, and energy optimisation.
  • Manage and technically assure external mechanical designers, CFD specialists, and vendors.
  • Support commissioning, operational transition, and in service issue resolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement through innovation, lessons learned, and performance data
