Most associate level engineers spend their week managing other people's workload. This is the role where your judgement actually shapes how the work gets won and built.

You will lead the structural and temporary works thinking on major London projects for a long established contractor, the kind of business where engineering decisions are made early and carry straight through to site. You set the approach, you sign off the difficult calls, and you mentor the engineers coming up behind you.

This is not a consultancy seat removed from the action. The schemes are large, central, and complex, and the gap between the drawing and the dig is measured in days, not months. Your design choices get tested in the ground quickly, which is exactly what makes the work satisfying for an engineer operating at associate or principal level.

You are probably already an associate, or a senior who has outgrown the title. The frustration is the same either way: real authority arrives slowly, and the interesting strategic work stays one rung above you. Here the rung is yours. You own the technical direction on your projects and you sit at the table where the programme and the commercials get decided.

The business is a major London contractor with deep capability in groundworks, structures, and enabling works, working on schemes most engineers only see from behind the hoarding.
