Senior / Principal Highway Engineer
Are you an experienced Highway Engineer with a passion for leadership and a desire to shape a team within a modern, forward-thinking consultancy? We are seeking a Senior or Principal Highway Engineer to step into a Hub Manager role within our growing Highways and Transportation team in London. This is a unique opportunity to lead a team of 5-8 engineers, manage key client relationships, and drive projects forward for clients like TfL and London's local authorities.
We're looking for a leader with the right character and ambition, where your potential and cultural fit are as important as your specific technical background.
You will be joining an innovative, employee-owned consultancy that is breaking the mould of traditional civil engineering. As a Hub Manager for one of our Highways and Transportation 'hubs' in London, you will be responsible for both your team and a portfolio of key clients. While we value experience, we are happy to train and support the right person to develop their management skills.
- Leading and line-managing a team of 5-8 engineers, including conducting appraisals and mentoring your team.
- Managing a portfolio of around five key clients, nurturing strong personal relationships and overseeing the project pipeline.
- Remaining hands-on with technical work, with a significant portion of your time utilised on projects.
- Overseeing a range of highways and transportation projects, from asset management plans through to feasibility, detailed design, and construction support.
Salary £45,000 - £53,000 per year dependant on experience
Benefit packageThe company is employee-owned, which means you share in its success. This includes the potential for a tax-free bonus of up to £3,500 each year, with the total bonus amount weighted according to your grade and length of service, rewarding loyalty and contribution.
Employment typeThis is a permanent, full-time position.
Company cultureYou’ll be part of a company with a young demographic and a vibrant, progressive culture that values innovation and challenges the norm. It's a highly social environment with football and tennis teams, running clubs, and regular team days out. With around 75 staff in the London office, the culture is built on strong relationships, and finding someone with the right character and ambition is more important than a perfect CV.
Whatyou'll need
- Experience in the highways and transportation sector.
- Experience in or a strong aptitude for leadership, people management, and client management.
- A proactive and forward-thinking mindset, with excellent people skills.
- A technical background in UK highway engineering, with experience in either design (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) or asset/infrastructure management being valuable.
- Experience with London-based work is a significant advantage.
- Chartership is preferred but is not a deal-breaker.
- A stable career history; we are looking for individuals who can commit long-term.
- The right character to support and enhance a positive, collaborative, and innovative team culture.
