Key Responsibilities Lead and manage commissioning activities on complex BMS projects from initial design review through to final handover.
Review project specifications, drawings, and control philosophies, identifying potential design, software, or commissioning issues at an early stage.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to commissioning engineers and junior team members.
Support solution design, scope development, technical proposals, and cost estimation activities.
Develop, modify, and commission BMS software in line with project requirements and company standards.
Coordinate commissioning activities with M&E contractors, project managers, end users, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
Ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely and in compliance with company policies, Electricity at Work Regulations, and site-specific health and safety requirements.
Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), integrated systems testing, and client witness testing.
Validate system performance, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and drive resolution through internal teams and subcontractors where required.
Produce and review commissioning documentation, handover packs, test records, and technical reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Configure and commission controllers, field devices, networks, supervisory systems, graphics, and energy-management solutions.
Support project delivery teams by identifying risks, opportunities, and programme impacts throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure all project documentation, commissioning records, certifications, and as-built information are maintained and completed to a high standard.
Participate in customer meetings and act as a technical representative during project execution and handover.
What We Look ForNVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
Significant BMS commissioning experience, typically 8+ years, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls, including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, boilers, plant rooms, terminal units, and associated control strategies.
Advanced experience developing, modifying, and commissioning BMS software and control systems.
Strong understanding of BMS architectures, networks, and communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and MSTP/IP.Experience leading commissioning activities on large-scale construction or refurbishment projects, typically valued between 500k and 5M+.Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system integration and performance issues.
ECS/CSCS certification and excellent understanding of construction-site health and safety requirements.
Experience with motor control systems, VSDs, energy management, and optimisation strategies.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work directly with customers and consultants.
Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers would be highly advantageous.
