Our client is seeking a Team Leader to support highway maintenance schemes and related infrastructure through a contract opportunity. The role will provide technical leadership, oversee service delivery and promote high standards of health, safety, environmental performance and customer service across the highways sector.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and resolve complex technical issues relating to highway maintenance schemes using specialist knowledge and sound judgement.
- Provide professional advice on scheme planning, design and compliance with relevant highway standards and regulations.
- Represent the service at project boards, make operational decisions and negotiate with contractors to achieve effective outcomes.
- Supervise, mentor and train colleagues, while planning workloads and supporting professional development.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure that works comply with approved designs, health and safety requirements and environmental regulations.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate records and respond promptly to internal and external enquiries, including requests received through Fix My Street and Member portals.
- Develop routine highway maintenance programmes for publication to Members and the public.
- Work with contract management colleagues to ensure the procurement of services through the highways maintenance contract complies with its terms and conditions.
- Experience in highway maintenance, highways engineering or a related infrastructure environment.
- Strong understanding of highway maintenance practices, scheme delivery and relevant technical standards.
- Ability to assess complex technical issues and make sound, well-informed decisions.
- Knowledge of health and safety, environmental compliance and statutory requirements within highway works.
- Experience of supervising, mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues.
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, including liaison with contractors, Members and the public.
- Excellent report writing, record-keeping and organisational abilities.
- Understanding of highways contracts, procurement processes and contract terms and conditions.
