We have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical / Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our London-based Infrastructure & Environment team.
This role would suit a Geotechnical Engineer who is developing towards Senior level and is looking for the opportunity to broaden their technical capability, take greater ownership of projects and develop their commercial and client-facing experience.
Our team provides geotechnical and ground engineering services primarily to the infrastructure and buildings sectors, working as part of multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality, commercially focused and value-driven solutions across London and the Southeast.

About The Role:As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will support and, where appropriate, take responsibility for the delivery of geotechnical projects from ground investigation through to design, reporting and construction support.
Your responsibilities will include:- Planning, specifying and managing ground investigations, including coordination of subcontractors, in-situ testing, laboratory testing and monitoring programmes.
- Developing and interpreting ground models using field and laboratory data to establish appropriate geotechnical parameters.
- Undertaking geotechnical assessments and design across a range of applications, including foundations, retaining structures, slopes, embankments, earthworks, ground improvement and temporary works interfaces.
- Preparing ground investigation specifications, interpretive Ground Investigation Reports, Geotechnical Design Reports, earthworks specifications, design calculations and construction-phase advice.
- Managing discrete technical tasks and work packages, taking increasing responsibility for the delivery of projects.
- Identifying geotechnical hazards and project risks and developing proportionate mitigation measures.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams, clients, contractors, subcontractors and external specialists.
- Supporting project planning, programming, resource management, risk management and financial performance.
- Contributing to fee proposals, budgets, progress tracking and change control.
- Providing technical support and guidance to more junior colleagues and contributing to their development.
- Reviewing technical documents and outputs prepared by others as your experience develops.
- Supporting construction-phase activities, including reviewing contractor proposals and providing technical advice where required.
- Ensuring all work is delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant technical and quality standards.
- You will have the opportunity to develop your client-facing and commercial skills, while working alongside experienced geotechnical professionals on a range of technically interesting and challenging projects.
You will play an important role in delivering high-quality geotechnical solutions for our clients, helping to manage ground-related risks and provide practical, technically robust and commercially effective advice.
You will contribute to projects throughout their lifecycle, from ground investigation and interpretation through to design and construction, while developing the technical and leadership skills required to progress towards Senior level.
As your experience develops, there will be opportunities to take greater responsibility for work packages, support junior colleagues, contribute to project management and build strong relationships with clients and project teams.
About You:To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment.
- Experience supporting the delivery of ground engineering projects.
- Experience planning, specifying and managing ground investigations, including coordination of subcontractors, in-situ testing, laboratory testing and monitoring programmes.
- Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, ground models and the interpretation of field and laboratory data.
- Good working knowledge of relevant British Standards, Eurocode 7, industry guidance and regulatory requirements.
- Experience preparing geotechnical technical deliverables, with developing capability in reviewing reports and technical outputs prepared by others.
- Experience assessing and designing geotechnical solutions, such as foundations, retaining structures, slopes, embankments, earthworks, ground improvement and temporary works interfaces.
- The ability to identify geotechnical hazards and project risks and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
- Confident communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong technical report writing and review skills, with the ability to produce clear, robust and commercially aware outputs.
