Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects with particular experience in building and growing teams. This role suits someone who is passionate about the integration of environmental input within the Planning process a Chartered Town Planner and the role forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.

With your specialism in environmental management or your technical or sustainability expertise your work could involve protected species pollution surface water and materials management air quality or noise. And in some of the worlds busiest and most beautiful locations.

Role accountabilities:

You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure rail highways water and defence projects mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients public realm and master planning projects as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation.

You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK / worldwide.

You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Working as part of the Leadership responsible for recruitment growth actively overseeing bidding and project delivery and leading on some key Clients
  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning / environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes
  • Support business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions and through involvement with key clients.
  • Raise awareness of our services winning new opportunities and building new contacts.
  • Actively engage in key client relationships lead by example creating cross selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders
  • Managing projects overseeing our performance on technical quality commercial and health and safety

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Excellent working knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process including EIA practices and procedures including case law and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms
  • Experience across a range of project types
  • Strong report writing verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects with good project management and technical skills
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities regulators and stakeholders
  • Commercial expertise including forecasting project management and quality assurance
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification preferably with chartered status or working towards
