Rail Systems Integration Engineer About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Rail Systems Integration Engineer on behalf of a leading organisation delivering one of the UK's most significant rail infrastructure programmes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a pivotal role in coordinating rail systems integration activities across multiple disciplines, ensuring seamless delivery from design through to construction and handover. Working within a highly collaborative environment, you will be responsible for managing critical interfaces between railway systems, civil works, stations, contractors, designers and client stakeholders.

The Role

As a Rail Systems Integration Engineer, you will support the successful integration of complex railway systems by managing technical interfaces, assurance activities and stakeholder coordination across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the project's Interface Management Plan.
  • Manage railway systems integration activities from design through to construction and commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain Functional Specifications, Architecture Specifications and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Ensure consistency and alignment across multiple rail systems and disciplines.
  • Support the delivery of reliability, safety, interoperability and security assurance activities.
  • Coordinate design interfaces between rail systems, civil works, stations and third-party stakeholders.
Programme & Design Coordination
  • Work closely with the design supply chain to ensure compliant and efficient delivery of design outputs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities in line with project programmes and budget requirements.
  • Collaborate with assurance, construction, logistics and delivery teams to resolve interface-related challenges.
  • Chair and facilitate systems integration and design coordination meetings.
  • Support change management, risk identification and opportunity management activities.

    Provide technical input to commercial and contractual matters where required.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, designers and internal project teams.
  • Support interface resolution and technical decision-making across the programme.
  • Act as a key link between design and construction teams to ensure successful delivery.
About You Essential Requirements
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on large, multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects.
  • Proven background in systems integration, design coordination and interface management.
  • Knowledge of railway systems, operational requirements and integration processes.
  • Experience preparing and managing technical assurance documentation.
Desirable
  • Chartered status (or working towards chartership) with a recognised professional institution.
  • Knowledge of:
  • RAM (Reliability, Availability and Maintainability)
  • Railway System Safety
  • Interoperability requirements
  • Security Management
  • Relevant rail industry regulations and standards, including CDM, CSM and RIR
