Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Greater London

Own the industrial design of a new off-road e-bike kit outright, from direction through to production-intent CAD. A contract Industrial Designer role in central London, £300 to £350 per day, outside IR35, hybrid at three to four days on site. Initial two weeks, with scope to extend.

Why This Might Beat The Job You Have Now

  • You own this design outright, from picking the direction to getting it to tooling, not inheriting a half-finished brief.
  • You sit with the engineers who build it, so your calls get tested in real parts within days, not thrown over a wall.
  • The off-road version is a real rethink, not a facelift, so the design decisions are genuinely yours to make.
  • A small, product-led team that decides fast, with no committee and no queue behind three other projects.
  • Well funded with a full pipeline, so a short contract has room to run for the right person.

Role At A Glance

  • Central London, hybrid, three to four days per week on site.
  • Contract, initial two-week review, likely one to two months.
  • Start as soon as sign-off allows, ideally week commencing the 14th.
  • Reporting to the engineering lead, alongside the in-house mechanical engineering team.

What You Will Own

As the Industrial Designer, you take the off-road kit from concept direction to production-intent output.

  • The industrial design of both the main unit and the battery.
  • The user journey and product flow for a kit used in a very different context to the current range.
  • Design for manufacture across injection moulded plastics and aluminium extrusions.
  • CAD, 3D prints and physical mock-ups to prove each design decision.

What You Will Need

  • A proven background in industrial design on consumer hardware or physical products, at a level where you own a product without hand-holding.
  • Strong CAD skills, comfortable taking a product to production-intent output. Onshape preferred, licences supplied.
  • Design for manufacture knowledge across injection moulded plastics and aluminium extrusions.

Handy but not essential, experience in e-bikes or micromobility, hands-on prototyping, and working with suppliers.

Salary And Benefits

  • £300 to £350 per day, outside IR35.
  • Hybrid, three to four days on site, in a team that makes decisions fast.

About The Company

A product-led hardware business in central London, building kits that turn a standard bike into an electric one. It recently changed hands with fresh investment and now sits inside a larger international group, so the budget and the project pipeline are both healthy. The team is small and hands-on, and this Industrial Designer role exists because the off-road project has outgrown its design capacity.
