Engineering Director – Energy & Decarbonisation Are you ready to lead the transition to a low-carbon future?
A growing, purpose-driven organisation in the energy sector is seeking an experienced and visionary Engineering Director to lead a high-performing design and engineering team. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, strategic direction, and impactful delivery across renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
What You’ll Be Leading:
As Engineering Director, you'll oversee the full project lifecycle, from concept to construction. You’ll drive technical leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement across a portfolio of innovative decarbonisation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with long-term growth and operational goals.
Project Oversight:
Ensure successful delivery of complex energy projects on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.
Team Development:
Lead, mentor, and inspire engineering professionals, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture.
Budget & Resource Management:
Oversee engineering budgets, allocate resources effectively, and ensure cost control.
Risk & Compliance:
Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all design codes, regulations, and environmental standards.
Quality Assurance:
Establish and enforce quality control processes to ensure excellence in engineering outputs.
Technology Integration:
Drive the adoption of digital tools (e.g., BIM, CAD, energy modelling, project software) to increase efficiency and precision.
Performance Reporting:
Track engineering performance metrics, prepare insights, and drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Communication:
Act as the key liaison across internal teams, clients, contractors, and senior leadership.
Design Management:
Lead design processes from RIBA Stage 2 to 4C, while providing advisory support through Stages 5 to 7.Business Strategy:
Contribute to organisational growth by identifying emerging technologies, new markets, and strategic opportunities.
What You Bring:
Proven leadership in engineering within renewable energy, infrastructure, or decarbonisation.
Strong technical expertise and working knowledge of design and construction standards.
A deep understanding of energy systems, sustainable design, or low-carbon technologies.
Skilled in managing multi-disciplinary teams across multiple live projects.
Adept at navigating complex stakeholder environments, including commercial, procurement, legal, and SHEQ.Confident communicator, comfortable leading meetings, delivering presentations, and representing the business externally.
A strategic mindset with the ability to balance detail and big-picture thinking.
