Network Rail is seeking an experienced Asset Engineer Structures (R&E) to help shape renewal and enhancement programmes across the Southern Region. About the Role

Network Rail has an opportunity for an Asset Engineer Structures (R&E) within the Southern Region Asset Management Team.

Based at London Blackfriars, the successful candidate will determine renewal requirements and develop engineering renewal and enhancement schemes for structures assets. The role involves producing specifications, setting acceptance criteria and ensuring engineering work is delivered in accordance with Network Rail standards, policies and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and prioritise renewal proposals for inclusion in the Structures engineering workbank.
  • Undertake engineering analysis and risk assessments to support asset management decisions and scheme development.
  • Support the production and prioritisation of route business plans.
  • Develop renewal and enhancement schemes before handover to delivery teams.
  • Provide technical support throughout project development and implementation.
  • Produce clear project remits and assess completed schemes against project requirements.
  • Specify acceptance criteria for design approvals, equipment acceptance and maintenance handback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across asset and project teams to optimise engineering activity and address technical issues.
  • Ensure accurate asset records and modification histories are maintained.
  • Undertake condition inspections to inform future renewals planning.

About You
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Significant experience within structures or civil engineering.
  • Sound knowledge of structures engineering policies and standards.
  • Knowledge of structures assessment methodologies.
  • Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
  • Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
