About the Role
As a Market Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of Barking Market and various special events. Your responsibilities will include:

Daily Operations:

Oversee the orderly, clean, and safe running of the market in line with Council Policy.
Market Setup:
Assist in setting up and shutting down the market, ensuring space allocation is managed effectively.
Financial Management:
Collect daily/weekly rent from traders, reconcile payments, and prepare monthly invoices.
Customer Engagement:
Foster good relationships with stallholders and customers, promoting market events and handling inquiries.
Safety Compliance:
Monitor market conditions to ensure safety regulations are upheld, addressing any hazards or breaches promptly.
Licencing:
Issue licences to casual traders, ensuring compliance with policies and managing competing demands for pitches.

Key Requirements
To thrive in this role, you should possess the following:

Experience:

Background in retail or public service, with a focus on customer engagement and support.
Communication

Skills:

Ability to clearly explain rules and regulations, resolve conflicts calmly, and foster positive relationships.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in using computer applications for business purposes, including basic spreadsheets.
Physical Capability:
Able to lift and carry bulky items and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
