Tax Manager – Private Equity (Central London | Hybrid)
Reporting to:
Head of Tax
We’re supporting a well-established private equity firm in hiring a Tax Manager to act as the number two in tax. This is a high-ownership role for a tax professional ready to independently run core tax operations while operating as a trusted advisor across funds, deal teams, and investors.
This is not just a support role — it’s designed for someone with the confidence, judgment and communication skills to represent the firm externally, manage advisors directly, and take responsibility for the day-to-day tax engine in a fast-paced PE environment.
The RoleYou’ll have primary responsibility for supporting transactional activity and investor matters while supporting the tax compliance and reporting framework across multiple funds and entities. A great number two role supporting a highly experienced Head of Tax with broad visibility across funds and deals.
Transactional & Deal Support- Act as the day-to-day tax contact for deal teams as transactions progress
- Prepare clear tax analysis with a recommended course of action
- Escalate and support on fund structuring, fundraising, complex investor matters and bespoke transactions
- Own the end-to-end tax compliance calendar across fund and corporate structures
- Oversee delivery across multiple jurisdictions (including the UK, US, Jersey and Luxembourg)
- Act as the key contact for tax advisors and administrators, driving timelines and quality
- Perform first-pass reviews of tax returns, reporting packs and investor tax deliverables
- Maintain oversight of group structures and investor reporting requirements
- Lead advisor calls independently, challenge assumptions and drive pragmatic outcomes
- Coordinate work streams across tax advisors, legal counsel, administrators and finance
- Build strong external relationships while maintaining accountability on delivery
- Respond directly to investor tax queries and reporting-related matters
- Apply judgment in determining when issues require escalation
- Manage multiple overlapping work streams across funds and transactions
- Maintain and enhance trackers, calendars and reporting workflows
- Introduce new frameworks where needed to improve control and scalability
- Maintain robust documentation of filings, tax positions and entity records
- Support audits, reviews and regulatory requests efficiently
This role suits someone who enjoys real responsibility without being the final sign-off, and who is comfortable running complex processes while exercising sound judgment.
- ACA / ACCA / CTA / qualified lawyer or equivalent
- Strong tax experience within private equity, funds or financial services
- Exposure to both tax compliance and transactional tax matters
- Ideally some familiarity with US and EMEA fund / holding structures
- Proven experience managing advisors and administrators independently
- Confident communicating complex tax issues to non-tax stakeholders
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, comfortable improving processes through technology
