The Group underwrites a diversified portfolio of Property, Casualty, and Specialty business through its U.S. carrier and UK-regulated entity, supported by delegated authority and MGA platforms.

The London office represents a core pillar of the Group’s international expansion and regulatory framework, supporting capital management, actuarial oversight, and enterprise risk governance across jurisdictions.
As part of its continued growth, the Group is seeking to appoint a Head of Actuarial Function (SMF
20) for its UK-regulated insurer.
The Head of Actuarial Function will assume formal responsibility for the actuarial function under the UK Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR). The role carries primary accountability for the coordination and oversight of the calculation of Technical Provisions, actuarial input into the ORSA process, and provision of independent actuarial advice to the Board and executive management.
This is a senior, regulator-facing appointment requiring strong technical expertise, governance maturity, and the ability to operate across both UK and US insurance environments.
The role provides a unique opportunity to shape and lead the actuarial framework of a growing specialty insurer with an expanding cross-border footprint.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as Actuarial Function Holder (SMF
20) for the UK-regulated entity. - Coordinate and oversee the calculation of Technical Provisions (Best Estimate Liabilities and Risk Margin) in accordance with UK regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and present the Actuarial Function Report to the Board.
- Provide actuarial input into the ORSA and capital management framework.
- Advise the Board and senior management on reserving adequacy, underwriting performance, and capital implications.
- Oversee reserving methodologies, validation processes, and actuarial governance policies.
- Liaise with external actuarial reviewers and auditors to ensure appropriate independent validation.
- Support coordination of actuarial analysis across the Group’s UK and U.S. entities, including interaction with the U.S. Qualified Actuary as required.
- Provide actuarial insight on reinsurance structures, portfolio optimisation, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and mentoring of actuarial capability within the organisation.
- Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Significant post-qualification experience within general insurance or specialty lines.
- Demonstrated experience operating within a UK Solvency II / UK Solvency regulatory environment.
- Experience interacting with regulators, Boards, and senior executive committees.
- Familiarity with U.S. reserving or statutory frameworks is desirable.
- Strong background in non-life reserving and technical provisions.
- Experience supporting ORSA, capital modelling, and actuarial governance frameworks.
- Ability to operate independently and exercise professional judgement in a regulated setting.
- Commercial awareness and capacity to balance technical rigour with strategic objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to articulate complex actuarial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- High degree of integrity, independence, and professional accountability.
- Collaborative leadership style, capable of working across underwriting, risk, and finance functions.
