Risk Manager

Overview

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Risk Manager to join their team in London. This role involves identifying and managing operational risks, conducting regular risk assessments, and developing risk mitigation strategies to support business continuity, with a focus on Back Office functions.

As a Risk Manager, your primary responsibility will be to manage operational risks within the organisation. You will work closely with Back Office teams, conducting regular assessments of daily processes and identifying potential vulnerabilities. Your keen eye for detail will allow you to monitor risk exposures and operational trends that could impact business continuity. You will also develop dashboards and reporting tools to provide real-time risk information to senior management.

Your excellent communication skills will be utilised as you prepare and present risk reports for governance forums, highlighting critical issues. In addition, you will design key risk controls in partnership with operational teams, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

• Collaborate with Back Office teams to identify and assess operational risks in daily processes.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and control reviews, documenting potential vulnerabilities.
• Monitor risk exposures and operational trends that could impact Back Office functions.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to provide real-time risk information to senior management.
• Prepare and present risk reports for governance forums, highlighting critical issues.
• Design and implement key risk controls in partnership with operational teams.
• Perform periodic control testing to ensure effectiveness.
• Investigate operational incidents, documenting root causes, and coordinating with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
• Support the development of risk mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate for the Risk Manager role will bring a wealth of experience in operational risk management within the financial industry. You will have a proven ability to perform tests of controls and a strong understanding of operational processes, risk frameworks, and regulatory requirements. Your proficiency in risk management software and tools will be essential in this role. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required, as you will be managing relationships with examiners and auditors, and working collaboratively with regional and global partners.

Your excellent problem-solving skills, inquisitive nature, and comfort challenging current practices will be highly valued. A BA in Finance, Economics, Risk Management or a related field is required.

• 7-10 years of experience in operational risk management or related roles within the financial industry.
• Proven ability to perform test of controls (design and operating effectiveness).
• Strong understanding of operational processes, risk frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency in risk management software and tools (e.g., GRC platforms).
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in managing regulatory exams and relationships with examiners and auditors.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, inquisitive nature and comfort challenging current practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively with regional and global partners in other functional units.
• Strong organisational, project management, and multi-tasking skills.
• BA in Finance, Economics, Risk Management or a related field.
