Your role

We're looking for an Investment Banking Associate who has a focus on Financial Institutions who can:

  • assist in advising our clients on how to achieve their desired rating goals in the context of contemplated transactions and/or their wider strategic objectives – this may include working directly with and/or presenting to a broad spectrum of stakeholders including our clients (at a C‑suite, Treasury and/or operational level) in addition to the rating agencies to help achieve these goals
  • advise UBS bankers on the potential rating impact of proposed transactions for clients (M&A, debt, equity, hybrid debt/capital/equity‑linked)
  • collaborate with other UBS bankers to prepare and present analysis on the expected rating impact of a contemplated transaction to UBS credit committees as an integral role in any potential UBS balance sheet commitment and/or underwriting
  • work with other UBS bankers to develop innovative solutions and products to enable clients to obtain finance, manage their business and manage the rating outcomes

Your team

You will be working within the Ratings Advisory Team in London. The team works with Global Banking divisions on advising corporate and financial institutions clients on their rating and rating‑led capital needs, in the context of transactions (M&A, capital markets transactions) or wider strategic advice. This role gives exposure to a variety of different teams within global banking (equity and debt capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance, sector and country coverage).

expertise
  • 3+ years’ experience in a rating agency, credit analysis, or investment banking role with focus on Financial Institutions (Insurance exposure is an advantage)
  • Experience building credit assessments alongside senior colleagues
  • Understanding of at least one rating agency's financial institutions or insurance rating criteria
  • Ability to reach views based on limited information, and to judge the sensitivity of those estimates to changing parameters such as leverage or transaction scope
  • Ability to work as part of a team to reach sound credit judgements following extensive analysis of information
  • Ability to support in advising clients on how best to manage their ratings, through understanding of methodologies, or negotiation and communication tactics with the agencies
  • Ability to work with teams of bankers under tight timetables to deliver transactions for UBS' clients
  • Ability to prioritise and self‑manage competing work streams including longer‑term projects and short‑term credit analysis
