Finance Officer – Debt and Claims Management

Contract:

Permanent

Salary: £30,890 to £34,322 per annum for 35 hours per week.

What You’ll Do

As our new Finance Officer – Debt and Claims Management, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding NHG’s financial health by ensuring that debts are managed effectively and claims are processed efficiently. You’ll support the wider Finance team by monitoring and recovering outstanding balances, managing insurance claims, and maintaining accurate records to protect the organisation’s assets and ensure compliance with financial standards.

You’ll be a trusted point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders, helping to resolve queries promptly and professionally. Your work will contribute directly to the financial sustainability of NHG and the delivery of quality homes and services to our residents.

How You’ll Do It
  • Administer and monitor all aspects of debt recovery, including liaison with customers, solicitors, and external agencies.
  • Process, track, and report on insurance claims, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution.
  • Prepare reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting documentation for internal and external reporting.
  • Support the month‑end and year‑end processes by maintaining accurate accounting records and journals.
  • Provide data and insight to managers to support decision‑making, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Maintain compliance with NHG’s financial procedures, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Build effective relationships across Finance and operational teams, promoting a culture of accuracy, accountability, and service excellence.
The ideal candidate

You’ll be someone with strong financial acumen, excellent organisational skills, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. You’ll thrive in a busy environment, be confident in managing competing priorities, and have a keen eye for detail.

Essential
  • Experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally involving debt recovery or claims management.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and IT skills (including Excel and financial systems).
  • Understanding of financial controls and accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.l
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Desirable
  • Experience working in housing, local government, or a similar regulated environment.
  • Progress towards an AAT qualification (or equivalent).
