Corporate Financial Accountant

£450-£520 per day (Umbrella) - Depending on Experience Hybrid Working Monday to Friday | 9:00am - 5:00pm 3-6 Month Ongoing Contract

Role Purpose

The Corporate Financial Accountant will lead on the production of the Council's Statement of Accounts
, ensuring compliance with current accounting regulations, audit standards and best practice. The role also oversees balance sheet management, statutory returns, tax compliance and continuous improvement across financial processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead year-end processes and production of the Statement of Accounts
  • Manage and reconcile balance sheet accounts throughout the financial year
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, audit requirements and best practice
  • Complete statutory returns including CIPFA
    , Government and revenue statistical submissions (RO returns and Quarterly Revenue Updates)
  • Maintain oversight of debtor balances and bad debt provisions
  • Support service charge calculations at budget setting and year-end
  • Act as the Council's lead contact with HMRC on tax matters and complete tax returns
  • Provide specialist financial and tax advice to internal stakeholders
  • Work closely with external auditors and finance teams during audit periods
  • Lead or support finance transformation and improvement projects
About You
  • Strong technical financial accounting experience within a Local Authority environment
  • Proven experience producing statutory accounts and managing audit processes
  • Excellent knowledge of local government accounting regulations and reporting standards
  • Experience managing balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Able to manage competing priorities and deliver to strict deadlines
