Financial Controller

This is a Financial Controller role with a difference.

Our client is a private equity-backed, FCA-regulated UK insurance carrier on a significant growth trajectory, with ambitious plans to materially increase premium volume over the next 18-24 months. As the business scales, they are seeking a high-calibre Financial Controller to help shape, professionalise and future‑prove the finance function.

This is a rare opportunity to build something meaningful - not just manage what already exists.

You'll join at a pivotal stage in the company's evolution. This role combines hands‑on delivery with strategic design, giving you real influence over how the finance function is structured and led.

You will:

• Design and implement a fit‑for‑scale finance operating model
• Establish robust reporting lines, controls and governance frameworks
• Create an organisational structure capable of supporting rapid premium growth
• Strengthen financial discipline across the business

Initially, you will remain close to the detail across:

• Management accounts
• Financial accounting
• Controls and governance
• Statutory and regulatory reporting

Over time, you will build and lead a sizeable, high‑performing finance team — embedding best‑in‑class processes while fostering a strong, engaged culture.

• Building and scaling finance teams within high‑growth insurance environments
• Designing clear, robust and sustainable finance operating models
• Acting as a trusted partner to senior and executive stakeholders
• Balancing strategic oversight with hands‑on execution
• Providing calm, credible financial leadership through change and growth

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller (or equivalent level) within an FCA-regulated insurance carrier or insurer
• Strong technical accounting and financial control expertise
• A leader who thrives on building from the ground up
• Comfortable operating at pace in a complex, evolving environment
• Commercially aware, resilient and confident influencing at board level

Our client offers flexible working arrangement where you can be primarily remote if preferred with occasional meetings in the offices which are around the home counties and London.
