Trade Credit Underwriter

Avencia are partnered with a leading global insurer who are looking to hire a Trade Credit Underwriter to join their team in London.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly regarded and well-established underwriting team with ambitious growth plans across the UK and international markets. The role offers a blend of both risk and commercial underwriting, with exposure to a broad portfolio of corporate and banking clients across multiple territories and sectors.

The business is particularly keen to attract well‑rounded underwriters with strong credit analysis and risk assessment capabilities, alongside the commercial mindset needed to help develop broker and client relationships. They are also open to individuals looking to broaden their experience within trade credit.

• Underwriting new and existing Trade Credit risks across a diverse portfolio
• Supporting the growth and development of broker and client relationships
• Conducting detailed financial and credit analysis on submissions
• Assessing trade and export finance risks, including single risk and whole turnover business
• Preparing and presenting underwriting submissions for peer review
• Negotiating policy terms and conditions
• Supporting portfolio management, retention and profitability targets
• Working closely with senior underwriters and business development teams on strategic growth initiatives
• Engaging directly with brokers, banks and insureds across the market

• Experience with in Trade Credit, Political Risk, Surety, Banking or a related financial risk environment
• Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills
• Understanding of risk underwriting principles across different sectors and territories
• Commercial mindset with the ability to build strong market relationships
• Exposure to trade finance, export finance or structured credit risks would be advantageous
• Knowledge of country risk and insolvency considerations is beneficial
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Interest in innovation and the use of technology/AI within underwriting
