Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) - Insurance - Director - London

Within EY, our Financial Accounting Advisory team (FAAS) focuses on supporting Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) across Compliance, Controls, Cognition, and Cost. We work closely with colleagues in other service lines, countries and industry sectors to deliver EY Finance Solutions including Finance Transformation, AI in Finance, the Future of Controllership, Finance offshoring, and Sustainability Reporting.

The opportunity

We are looking for a senior member of the team, a Market Facing Director, to sell and lead delivery of projects to help our Insurance client clients improve efficiency and implement change projects in finance. The ideal candidate has strong US GAAP reporting and SOX implementation experience with a focus on non‑life insurance. Experience in finance transformation and accounting and regulatory change will also be valuable.

Your

key responsibilities
  • Advise Finance functions on “good looks like” across the operating model: process & controls, policy completeness and application, data flow and systems architecture, organisational structure and personnel skill sets.
  • Drive Finance transformation across process, cost, and control improvements.
  • Leverage new technology to implement the Finance of the Future.
  • Advise on implementation of new accounting and regulatory requirements resulting from changes in legislation or business combinations.

Additionally, as a senior member, responsibilities include:

  • Designing and executing marketing activities covering solution development and account coverage.
  • Delivering client engagements with robust quality and stakeholder management.
  • Managing risk for all activities.
  • Managing team operations and account management.
  • Providing people and pastoral care.
  • Developing the delivery model.
  • Strategic high‑level team leadership and innovation.
Skills and attributes for success
  • Deep knowledge of Insurance Finance Functions across operating model dimensions.
  • Experience with US GAAP and IFRS reporting for insurers.
  • SOX and ICFR implementation experience.
  • Ability to advise clients on accounting and regulatory issues and lead implementation projects.
  • Ability to cultivate and leverage a large network within EY.
  • Strong team management and results‑driven self‑starter.
  • Relationship cultivation and stakeholder management.
  • Drive to learn and develop across a range of topics.
  • Ability to manage and lead project teams and collaborate with Advisory and Assurance teams.
To qualify for the role you must have
  • 10+ years of experience in the Insurance sector, in auditor/consultant or industry finance roles.
  • Proven business development and client engagement track record in a large, complex management consultancy.
  • Significant exposure to finance functions at financial institutions.
  • Strong accounting background.
  • Ability to network within large organisations and build client relationships.
  • Experience with US GAAP and US SOX reporting and implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills and basic Office application proficiency.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Accounting qualification: ACA/CA/ACCA/CPA or equivalent.
  • Exposure to insurance regulations and their impact.
  • Interest in emerging technologies such as AI and cloud computing.
