Job Overview
The Financial Analyst will contribute to the preparation of financial management information including accurate R&D budgets, monthly income and expenditure reports and financial forecasts. The role supports the Senior Financial Analyst and R&D Finance Manager by reviewing budget reports, analysing variances from plan, and ensuring action on required changes is taken. The post-holder will provide analysis to Research Leads and help them interpret finance reports.
Key Responsibilities- a. To generate and maintain R&D budget reports and other spreadsheet‑based reports in accordance with agreed timetables and department policies and procedures.
- b. To review R&D budget reports, investigate significant variances by interrogating the financial ledger sub‑systems, summarise findings in spreadsheets and other forms for use by the Research Finance Manager and other finance staff.
- c. To prepare costing spreadsheets for budget setting and for financial planning.
- d. To meet regularly with budget holders and provide information and analysis to them, resolving queries regarding financial management matters with minimal supervision.
- e. To facilitate the flow of information between researchers and other departments within Finance.
- f. To assist with the production of external service agreements and internal recharge agreements to facilitate the development of new R&D initiatives, including the Comprehensive Research Network.
- g. To explain relevant regulations from the Trusts Standing Financial Instructions to individual members of staff.
- h. To recommend improvements and changes to local working practices.
- i. To comply with the Data Protection Act in relation to the confidentiality of personal information and patient confidentiality.
- j. To undertake any other duties as required, consistent with the grade and nature of the post.

- Essential:
Relevant work experience in finance, research or academic research. - Desirable:
Experience working in an accounting department; knowledge and experience of working with grant applications and research contracts.
