The Senior Finance Analyst role is responsible for generating and producing monthly budget statements and financial reports in accordance with the Trust’s agreed timetables and departmental policies and procedures, under the line management of a Senior Business Support Analyst.
The post holder will investigate variances from plan by interrogating the Trust's financial systems and summarise and report on these in monthly performance narratives. They will provide timely resource‑management information to the relevant Budget Holders and assist in the provision of comprehensive financial management information and advice to a range of areas within the Trust.
The role includes meeting budget holders to support the Finance Business Partners and Senior Support Analysts in the budgeting, forecasting and business planning process.
Key responsibilities include:
- Produce annual income and expenditure base budget schedules for each subdivision/department assigned.
- Produce comprehensive, robust, accurate and timely monthly financial reports for each assigned directorate/department, covering income, expenditure, variance analysis, forecasts, integration of non‑financial information, narrative and audit trail reports.
- Accurately prepare internal and external recharges, accruals and amendment journals for processing by Financial Management Finance Analysts.
- Maintain and contribute to the development of detailed standard operating procedure notes in relation to month‑end duties.
- Provide training and advice to budget holders and finance colleagues on variance analysis and ad‑hoc analysis.
- Implement audit recommendations and ensure a sound internal control system is maintained.
- Provide assistance to line managers and divisional managers with calculations underpinning cost improvement programmes and business case financial schedules.
- Attend directorate meetings and explain financial performance.
- Work with Senior Finance Analysts, Senior Finance Manager and Financial Business Partners to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial information to appropriate levels of management.
- Perform other Senior Finance Analyst duties as required.
Additional responsibilities:
- Lead, coach and manage team performance, ensuring compliance with statutory, mandatory and professional training requirements.
- Manage team absences in line with Trust policy, including return‑to‑work meetings and updating e‑rosters.
- Identify and fill vacancies within the team following recruitment policy.
- Review skills mix to maximise resource utilisation and keep job descriptions updated.
- Maintain overall wellbeing of the team, supporting morale and a zero‑tolerance culture for bullying and harassment.
- Ensure a general duty of care for personal health, safety and wellbeing of the post holder and others within the hospital.
The Trust takes safeguarding seriously. All employees must attend mandatory safeguarding training, familiarise themselves with reporting processes and report any concerns appropriately.
Infection Control StatementThe post holder must adhere to infection control and hygiene procedures and requirements in clinical areas, in line with the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and local policies.
Person Specification Education and Qualifications- Part‑qualified CCAB or CIMA with experience.
- Full accreditation within 12 months of starting the post.
- Experience working in an NHS accounting department, including in a management accounting role.
- Experience using general ledger and financial reporting software packages.
- Experience preparing business cases and cost improvement initiatives.
- Strong accounting skills, including the ability to identify, articulate and evaluate key risks and assumptions.
- Ability to manage highly complex, confidential and sensitive issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with non‑finance staff at all levels.
- Understanding of good financial governance and NHS policies.

Salary: £47,951 to £56,863 per annum, including high‑cost allowance.
