Overview

Structured Finance Office for EMEA (ESFO): MUFG offers comprehensive advisory, capital structuring and debt arrangement services for the financing of the development or acquisition of capital‑intensive assets, on a non‑recourse or limited recourse basis. Our specialist teams focus on a range of sectors, including Energy, Infrastructure, Housing Finance and Structured Corporates.

Within ESFO, the Institutional Capital & Rating Advisory team spans all sectors and aims to structure the most competitive and deliverable funding solution for our client base evaluating all available funding sources in the market. These funding sources include commercial or multilateral banks, institutional investors, private placements or public bond finance or a combination thereof. The team also provides credit ratings advisory services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or support structuring and rating mandates, including negotiating the mandate letter, developing information memoranda, and performing financial structuring and analysis.
  • Negotiate with funders and manage the financial aspects of the due‑diligence process.
  • Manage the rating process, develop key documentation and oversee the overall funding process through to financial close.
  • Manage client relationships with key sponsors, lawyers, banks and other financial institutions.
  • Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in devising, refining and implementing the capital structuring and rating advisory strategy.
  • Develop and train others in rating methodology, processes, and issues.
  • Collaborate with other MUFG teams to enhance the MUFG offering and client services.
  • Play an active role in business development focused on rating advisory aspects, including identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and conducting client marketing.
  • Participate in assessment and authorisation activities, including presenting the transaction through internal approval processes such as Business Screening.
  • Propose appropriate solutions, in conjunction with other specialist functions of MUFG, to deliver tailored client solutions.
  • Ensure that business development, structuring and execution are market‑leading, sound and appropriate.
  • Potential for substantial overseas travel.
Work Experience

Experience in Structuring/Project Finance/M&A/Fund roles preferred. Experience in rating advisory roles preferred but not essential. Recent experience with rating methodologies across the Big‑3, DBRS and KBRA is desirable. Some previous experience working in structured finance and/or capital markets is preferred but not essential.

Skills and Experience
  • Excellent understanding of rating methodologies and analysis.
  • Project Finance and/or Structured Finance knowledge.
  • Corporate rating experience/understanding preferred.
  • Ability to lead on all rating aspects as part of a wider structuring mandate.
  • Knowledge of credit, risk management, market and legal aspects of project finance.
  • Desirable: project finance modelling experience.
  • Analytical skills, including ability to run simple financial models.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Sound IT knowledge and skills.
  • Quantitative and numerical skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
