Pay: £30,000 – £35,000 FTE (pro rata £18,000 – £21,000), DOE
Reports to:
CEO, with oversight from Trustees and support from a part‑time CFO
As Finance Officer, you will support the day‑to‑day financial operations of Yaseen Youth Development Ltd, ensuring accurate record‑keeping and effective financial administration. The role involves maintaining the accounting system, processing transactions and reconciliations, supporting payroll and Gift Aid processes, and assisting with the preparation of financial reports, budgets and forecasts. You will also help ensure compliance with relevant regulations, uphold financial controls and policies, and provide reliable financial information to support the organisation’s operations.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using Xero, including processing transactions, invoices and receipts.
- Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, coded and supported.
- Perform regular bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including income and expenditure reporting and variance analysis.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and ongoing financial forecasts.
- Monitor income and expenditure against budgets and highlight variances.
- Prepare financial reports for grants, programmes and donor‑funded projects.
- Process and submit Gift Aid claims, ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained.
- Manage organisational bank accounts and drive cash flow monitoring.
- Handle cash, expenses and staff reimbursements in line with policies.
- Count, record and deposit cash donations after Friday prayers, events and external mosque collections.
- Support the annual accounts and audit process, liaising with external accountants where required.
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission, HMRC and Companies House requirements.
- Uphold financial policies, procedures and internal controls, and support staff in adhering to them.
- Process monthly payroll, ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time.
- Manage payments to HMRC and pension providers (e.g., NEST).
- Maintain payroll records and support HR with staff financial documentation.
- Assist with pension contributions and statutory payroll requirements.
- Provide support with staff cost budgeting and workforce planning.
- Ensure payroll processes align with HR policies and employment regulations.
- AAT qualification or part‑qualified (or working towards).
- Proven experience in a finance or bookkeeping role.
- Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage or Quick Books.
- Competency in bank reconciliations, invoicing and day‑to‑day finance processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working with financial systems and data.
- Ability to communicate clearly with non‑finance staff.
- Proactive and reliable, with a willingness to take ownership of tasks.
- A collaborative team player.
- Experience supporting month‑end processes or preparing basic financial reports.
- Experience with payroll processes.
- Experience working within a charity or non‑profit organisation.
- Experience supporting year‑end or audit processes.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Additional:
The post holder may be required to work occasional evenings or weekends during key events.
