Overview
This is a role within the Actuarial pricing team of a leading Lloyd’s insurance company and is suitable for a student actuary working in general insurance. Prior experience in a pricing team is advantageous but not essential. The Pricing Analyst will support account pricing, model development, and pricing analytics primarily for Chaucer’s Property, Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit portfolios.
Responsibilities- Develop an understanding of the Property, Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit classes, trends, and underwriting team strategy.
- Provide account pricing and underwriter support for broker negotiations.
- Perform ongoing portfolio monitoring for accounts and the overall portfolio.
- Contribute ideas for new MI.
- Support model recalibration reviews.
- Support the collection and maintenance of pricing data.
- Keep abreast of industry initiatives and develop knowledge of new pricing and visualisation techniques and best practice when opportunities arise.
- Collaborate, present, and share knowledge with the wider Actuarial team on pricing approaches.
- Assist with other pricing team activities as required.
- Relevant experience: general insurance experience; general insurance pricing experience, particularly in Property, Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit classes is desirable.
- Technical skills: essential – comprehensive knowledge of Excel; desirable – VBA, Python, R, SQL.
- Education:
desire to sit the IFoA exams and become a qualified actuary. - Academic: 2.1 or 1st degree in Maths or a Maths‑related subject (e.g., Physics, Engineering, Statistics).
- Three or more ‘A’ levels, including Maths.
- Progress towards IFoA qualification or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
- Advanced analytical skills – logical, methodical, and rational approach to problem solving.
- Comfortable with interpreting and producing numerical data.
- Ability to present findings to key stakeholders.
- Attention to detail.
- Self‑motivated, hard‑working, and takes initiative.
- Organised and clear thinking.
- Ability to plan and organise work to meet targets and deadlines.
- Collaborative, able to work as a team and communicate with staff at all levels.
Some travel in support of underwriter/client meetings may be required.
