Assistant Accountant (Maternity Cover) Annual Salary: up to £38,000

Fixed-term (Aug 2026 – Oct 2027) We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established SME on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative finance team and supporting the day-to-day operations of the finance function. Day-to-day of the role:
Transactional Finance:
Process sales orders and invoices. Manage the purchase ledger, including supplier invoices, reconciliations, and queries. Support the sales ledger with invoicing, statements, and customer queries. Handle expenses and credit card transactions. Banking & Cash Management:
Perform daily bank reconciliations. Monitor balances and support cash flow tracking. Process payments to suppliers, staff, and HMRC. Admin & Wider Business Support:
Support staff records and HR administration. Respond to general enquiries. Update spreadsheets and assist with reporting. Support the wider team with ad hoc tasks. Required Skills &

Qualifications:

Previous experience in a similar accounts role. Confidence in managing both purchase and sales ledgers, as well as banking. Highly organised with strong attention to detail. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment. AAT qualification or currently studying towards one is beneficial but not essential. Intreasted? Apply today.
