Position: Customer Due Diligence (CDD) Design SME
Location: Greater London

Overview

Purpose of the role:
Provide data-led expert oversight and challenge on business and compliance matters to evidence that the organisation operates in compliance with Barclays legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and assess compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing and systems.
  • Identify and investigate potential market abuse, including insider dealing, unlawful disclosure, market manipulation or anti-competitive conduct.
  • Conduct investigations of compliance risk events or breaches.
  • Oversee and challenge corrective actions and preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
  • Implement compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensure internal policies align with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements.

    LOD, other Compliance teams, legal and risk management functions to support a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
  • Identify, investigate and oversee potential money laundering, terrorist financing or other financial crime.

CDD Design SME Role

The Customer Due Diligence (CDD) Design SME operates in the second line of defence, providing deep Financial Crime subject matter expertise across the end-to-end CDD lifecycle. You will work across global businesses, systems, controls and processes to design effective, risk-based CDD controls and enhance existing controls where required.

You will translate regulatory expectations, policy requirements, risk principles and control objectives into clear, practical and implementable design solutions that strengthen control effectiveness, support sustainable delivery and drive measurable Financial Crime risk reduction. This is a strong opportunity to join a team shaping the future design of Financial Crime controls across the bank.

You will work on complex, high-impact issues, partner with stakeholders across Compliance, business, technology, data and change teams, and help deliver practical improvements to the Bank’s Financial Crime control environment.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Regulatory and Risk Expertise:
    Advanced expertise in UK and international AML/Financial Crime regulatory requirements, guidance and risk typologies; ability to interpret complex requirements and translate them into practical, risk-based CDD designs.
  • CDD Control Design Expertise:
    Ability to design, optimise and govern CDD controls; experience embedding compliance-by-design principles.
  • End-to-End CDD SME:
    Deep experience across the CDD lifecycle (Risk Assessment, Identification & Verification, CDD/KYC, EDD, Ongoing Due Diligence) with understanding of how CDD interacts with Screening, TM, Investigations and Exits.
  • Requirements and Target State Design:
    Ability to define and challenge business, risk and control requirements and target state solutions with clear traceability to regulatory expectations.
  • CDD System Knowledge:
    Understanding of CDD systems, data flows, workflows and technology architecture; experience with technology-enabled control design.
  • Broader Financial Crime exposure (Sanctions, ABO/AC, Anti-Tax Evasion) andstrong communication skills for stakeholder management.
  • Assessments may cover risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital/technology know-how.
