Our client is a leading fuel and petrol trading & supply business, with global operations and supply chains. They are seeking a Group Deriviatives Controller to provide in-house technical expertise and oversight in this high-profile position.

Walker Hamill is partnering with a leading international organisation to recruit a Group Derivatives Controller into a newly created, high-profile role within its Group Finance function.

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the Group's derivatives control framework, providing oversight of complex financial instruments across multiple jurisdictions and acting as a key business partner to regional finance, treasury and risk teams.

Responsibilities

Reporting into the Group Financial Controller and working closely with the CFO, the Group Derivatives Controller will be responsible for overseeing the Group's derivative activities and ensuring a consistent and controlled approach across all regions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing Group-level oversight and governance of all derivatives activities across commodities, FX, and interest rates.
  • Developing and maintaining Group-wide policies, procedures, and controls for derivative management.
  • Acting as a key partner to regional finance and risk teams across the Group, providing training and guidance to ensure proper trade capture, valuation, and accounting.
  • Overseeing Group-wide valuation and hedge accounting under IFRS 9.
  • Ensure derivative transactions are accurately reflected in the Group's consolidated financial statements.
  • Driving consistency and continuous improvement in derivatives reporting, controls and processes.
  • Supporting external audit requirements and acting as a key point of contact for technical accounting matters relating to derivatives and hedge accounting.
The Candidate

We are seeking a qualified accountant or treasury professional with strong technical expertise in derivatives accounting and financial risk management.

Candidates are likely to bring:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CA or equivalent) and/or treasury qualification.
  • Significant experience of hedge accounting under IFRS 9 within a large, complex organisation, or advising on such within an accounting firm.
  • Strong understanding of derivative valuation principles and related financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience partnering with treasury, risk and finance stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

This role offers exceptional exposure to senior stakeholders, broad international reach and the opportunity to shape and strengthen a critical Group finance capability within a dynamic and evolving business.
