DescriptionEnglish National Ballet are seeking a Financial Controller with charity accounting experience to head up our financial accounting function. This role will focus on pursuit of best practice whilst overseeing financial compliance, statutory reporting and ENB’s control environment. Working as part of the senior Finance team, this role will engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including managing and developing two direct reports.
Your main responsibilities as Financial Controller will include:
- Head up ENB’s Financial Accounting function, providing leadership and management (as well as development opportunities, where appropriate) to a team of part-qualified and non-qualified colleagues.
- Manage a range of services through a high-performing, customer-focused finance team that can adapt with confidence to ENB’s growing demands whilst maintaining a focus on quality and effectiveness.
- Ensure a strong internal control environment that delivers timely and accurate information for quality reporting, thereby supporting decision-making and assisting in reporting progress against budget and forecast.
- Be the first point of contact for systems optimisation, tax compliance, and statutory reporting.
- Support the Head of Finance in financial strategy and business planning, working as part of the senior Finance team alongside the Head of Management Accounts.
- Proven significant experience of working as a senior finance professional in the arts sector or charity sector.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Proven experience of managing finance systems and processes, financial reporting, audit management, and charity tax and VAT.
- Have a good working knowledge of payroll, including associated taxes and complex pay elements.
- Ability to develop or refresh processes and ensure good documentation is in place, facilitating consistent implementation of agreed procedures.
- Ability to lead, develop and retain direct reports, and enable them to take ownership of and responsibility for their own deliverables and development (with support for professional qualifications as appropriate).
