Finance is a key function focused on quantifying, analysing and evaluating AXA XL's performance in order to provide insightful and accurate information to a number of external and internal stakeholders. The work performed by Finance is used for a variety of purposes such as development and implementation of business strategy, managing risk and controls, compliance with regulatory requirements in the UK, and across the globe.

Another important part of the Finance function is partnering with other functions, for example underwriters, by providing first-hand insight into their financial performance and assist with business planning.

The Finance Graduate Analyst will support the Finance team in delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting, analysis, controls and operational finance activities. This role is designed for a motivated graduate who is looking to build a foundation in accounting, financial reporting, business partnering and financial controls while working towards a professional finance qualification.

What you'll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Support quarterly financial close process, including preparation of journals, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of management information, commentary and analysis for Finance leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Help maintain, test and improve financial controls, working closely with finance operations teams.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Support the preparation of year-end financial statements, audit deliverables and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Work with colleagues across Finance, Actuarial, Tax, Ceded Re, Middle Office and other teams to resolve data quality or reporting issues.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including simplification, automation and better use of finance systems and data.
  • Develop clear, accurate and well-presented analysis to support decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, training undertaken and development progress.

You will report to the Head of Finance, Financial Reporting And Accounting.

Skills And Abilities
  • Solving complex problems through logic, initiative and skill, as this forms part of a finance professional's daily role. You will be working with complicated processes and procedures and will need to be adept at interpreting and manipulating data.
  • Attention to detail and excellent numerical skills are essential.
  • This is an interactive role and you will work with a wide range of professionals including actuaries, underwriters, claims, risk and compliance managers at all levels, so the ability to build successful relationships and to communicate well to different audiences is important.
  • Working in finance demands a wide range of skills, including time management, data interpretation and analysis, the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and work in and with varied teams.
