Join us as a Portfolio Manager in our Private Bank and Wealth Management team in Jersey.
A Discretionary Portfolio Manager (DPM) is central to delivering a great client experience by providing first-class service, managing investment portfolios and contributing to the overall investment process. DPMs act as stewards for our clients and our business, operating with fiduciary responsibility and a focus on building lasting discretionary relationships.
The role holder will be an active participant in the Private Bank Global Investment Committee (main investment decision making forum) and will contribute to the wider investment forums supporting all DPM models. They will be an active and collaborative contributor and promote our investment culture.
Portfolio Managers manage a book of client portfolios and ensure the timely execution of investment decisions to generate strong risk-adjusted returns that meet clients’ expectations and goals. PMs are expected to work within established tolerances and personal authorisations based on business procedures, and to escalare breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications- Level 4 qualification, such as the Investment Management Certificate; CFA would be an advantage for this role.
- Previous experience managing a book of portfolios within established tolerances and personal authorisations based on business procedures, escalare breaches of policies/procedures appropriately, and support their closure.
- Comfortable in a client-facing role, with the ability to present and explain portfolio performance, attribution, asset allocation and activity to clients and bankers.
- Keen interest in investment markets across asset classes, with the ability to contribute to the Private Bank Global Investment Committee.
- Drive to support the continued success and stability of the Jersey Private Bank DPM platform.
- Understanding of current and forthcoming regulatory and compliance requirements impacting the Private Banking business.
- Duty of care with respect to Barclays’ obligations and responsibilities under local and national regulators, relevant Group Policies and business controls.
- The right candidate will be educated to degree level, or hold a professional equivalent.
- Additional professional qualifications relevant to investment management.
- Existing experience with managing a book of client relationships
- Extensive market and investment knowledge

This role is deemed as a Certified role under the PRA & UK Financial Conduct Authority - Individual Accountabilities Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.
Purpose of the roleTo generate returns, manage risk, and ensure the portfolio’s financial stability and long-term success.
Accountabilities- Allocation and monitoring of securities within a portfolio, aligned to the banks risk tolerance to framework and changing market conditions, investment objectives and regulatory requirements, utilising specialist software and data analytics tools, to enhance the portfolio management efficiency and effectiveness.
- Execution of research and analysis on various securities (equity, bond, funds) to identify profitable investment opportunities, aligned to the banks risk tolerance.
- Communication of the banks investment philosophy, decision making and investment selection to Clients and other key stakeholders such as Relationship Managers and Investment Advisors.
- Performance monitoring against benchmarks and objectives,analysing risk metrics,and creation of reports for senior colleagues and internal stakeholders.
- Implementation of risk management strategies to identify,assess,and mitigate potential financial risks associated with the portfolio,such as market fluctuations,credit risk,and liquidity risk.
