Finance Manager – Sustainability

Location:

Contract:

Full time – 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on the production of the Group’s reporting and planning and forecasting for GHG emissions underpinned by effective processes, and robust controls and governance frameworks to achieve Bupa’s sustainability goals.
  • Play a key role in the delivery of our scope 3 finance transformation activities covering the measurement and reporting of GHG emissions from our value chain (category 1-14) and investments (category 15).
  • Work closely with members of the sustainable finance team together with Group Sustainability and the Market Units to support in the delivery of both Bupa’s 3x100 strategy and sustainability strategy, Better World.
  • Support the implementation of upcoming relevant Group sustainability regulatory reporting requirements, including Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and UK Sustainability Reporting standards (UK SRS).
  • Work with the Senior Manager and Head of Finance in the delivery of the regular GHG emissions reporting for Bupa.
  • Act as the relationship lead with our Market Units.
  • Drive our scope 3 finance transformation activities in readiness for external limited assurance, and external disclosure, including collaborating with Group Sustainability and Group Investment Management to ensure an effective and efficient transition of scope 3 measurement and reporting activities into Group Sustainable Finance.
  • Lead regular internal and external reporting, analysis and data-driven insights across scope 1, 2 and 3.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of GHG reporting including processes, controls and analysis, through engagement with key stakeholders at Group and the MUs.
  • Design and operate appropriate controls to robustly avoid/resolve issues affecting the internal/external reporting of metrics.
  • Identify and alert as appropriate on any weaknesses, error, omission or opportunity in the reporting, including bringing to the attention of accounting issues and/or key judgements.
  • Provide strong business partnering to Group and MU stakeholders in the delivery of our 3x100 strategy, and Bupa’s sustainability strategy, Better World.
  • Support preparation of papers for the Group Audit Committee and other Group Governance Committees (e.g. Board Risk Committee, Main Board, Sustainability Steerco).
  • Support the implementation of changes to external reporting requirements (e.g. GHG Protocol, PCAF, CSRD and/or UK SRS), and technical interpretation where applicable.
  • Support the team in the timely delivery of the annual global assurance.

What you’ll bring
  • Finance Qualification with Post Qualification Experience – ACA, CIMA or equivalent.

  • Graduate or equivalent;
    Finance, Business Studies, Environment Sciences, Engineering or similar.
  • Knowledge of GHG Protocol and PCAF (including knowledge of investment asset classes) as well as sustainability reporting standards e.g. CSRD/UK SRS desirable.
  • Some knowledge and application of technical standards, ideally relating to sustainability, energy, and environmental issues.
  • Clear understanding of controls and importance of data integrity.
  • Advanced Excel skills with proven experience in managing complex models and analysing large datasets.
  • Experience of the use, maintenance, and development of financial or non-financial systems.
  • Previous experience with GHG accounting systems, Oracle, Workiva, Aladdin Risk and Climate and Watershed desirable.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be comfortable with ambiguity.
