About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced and highly organised Financial Accountant to strengthen the day-to-day running of the Finance function and provide a layer of ownership between the Financial Controller and the transactional finance activities currently supported by the Finance Assistant.
The role will take responsibility for a broad range of recurring finance processes, helping to ensure that day-to-day finance activity is completed accurately, on time and with appropriate controls. It will also provide additional capacity for the Financial Controller to focus on reporting, governance, technical accounting, audit, tax and higher-value finance projects.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working across the detail while also improving how the function operates.
The responsibilities can flex as the Finance team develops and as systems and automation reduce manual workload.
Key Responsibilities Day-to-Day Finance Operations- Own and coordinate recurring AR and AP activity, ensuring invoices, payments, collections and allocations are completed accurately and on time.
- Manage the Finance inbox and coordinate responses to internal and external finance queries.
- Oversee routine finance communications, payment workflows and introducing-broker (IB) processes.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and prioritisation for the Finance Assistant and ensure key activities are covered during absences.
- Maintain clear ownership, deadlines and escalation routes for routine Finance processes.
- Coordinate the month-end timetable and ensure journals, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules are completed.
- Prepare and review selected balance-sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual or aged items.
- Support production of monthly management accounts and variance commentary.
- Assist with actual-versus-budget reporting and recurring management information.
- Support the Financial Controller with analysis, schedules and ad hoc reporting as required.
- Oversee routine bank reconciliations and ensure exceptions are investigated and resolved.
- Support monitoring of bank balances, payment requirements and short-term cash movements.
- Assist with intercompany recharges and reconciliations.
- Support the Treasury & Regulatory Finance Manager with underlying data and reconciliations where responsibilities overlap.
- Coordinate monthly payroll inputs and support payroll submissions through the relevant payroll provider.
- Review and reconcile employee expenses and ensure compliance with policy.
- Maintain supplier records and support supplier onboarding and invoice/payment queries.
- Maintain relevant fixed-asset records and support depreciation processing.
- Calculate and prepare monthly commission calculations accurately and on time, including reviewing inputs, investigating variances and supporting the approval and payment process.
- Maintain process documentation, checklists and a clear audit trail for core Finance activities.
- Prepare schedules and supporting evidence for external audit and other assurance activity.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline recurring processes.
- Work with the Financial Controller and wider business to improve finance systems, reporting and controls.
- Support implementation of new processes and ensure they are documented and embedded.
- Fully qualified accountant, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3 to 5 years' relevant finance experience, including at least 1 year post-qualification.
- Previous experience in a broad finance role within financial services, an SME, or a multi-entity environment would be desirable.
- Strong understanding of AP, AR, reconciliations, month-end close, and management accounts.
- Experience working with payroll, expenses, financial reporting, and recurring finance processes would be advantageous.
