The Management Accountant will report to the Senior Finance Business Partner and is responsible for preparing accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support effective decision-making across the business. The role plays a key part in month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and business partnering with operational and commercial teams.
Main Duties:- Management Accounting & Month-End Reporting – Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting, while completing month-end activities such as journals, accruals, prepayments and revenue recognition.
- Financial Analysis & Forecasting – Analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior year results, providing clear commentary on variances, risks, opportunities and business trends.
- Business Partnering & Commercial Support – Work closely with operational and commercial teams to provide financial insight, challenge assumptions and support effective decision-making and budget management.
- Project Performance & Cost Control – Monitor project, contract and departmental performance, identifying margin improvements, cost-saving opportunities, process efficiencies and profitability enhancements.
- Financial Governance & Continuous Improvement – Maintain strong financial controls, ensure compliance with accounting standards, support audits, improve reporting processes and assist with the successful transition of ESM into Major Projects.
- Qualified Accountant – Newly qualified or qualified (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) with experience in management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
- Financial Control & Compliance – Strong understanding of month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations, accounting principles, financial controls, CIS, VAT and tax compliance requirements.
- Analysis & Reporting Skills – Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities, with experience analysing large datasets and turning financial information into meaningful business insights.
- Stakeholder & Commercial Awareness – Confident communicator able to influence and support non-finance stakeholders, with a proactive approach to identifying risks, opportunities and improvements.
- Industry & Systems Experience – Experience in working capital and cash flow forecasting, with project accounting or construction industry experience advantageous and SAP knowledge desirable.
