Interim Financial Controller - Role Summary

I am working exclusively with a care charity to recruit an Interim Financial Controller to strengthen their financial controls, improve month-end reporting processes, and provide leadership to the finance team. The role will manage and develop the Finance Officer and Finance Assistant, ensuring robust financial processes, clear accountability, and continuous development across the team.

Key responsibilities include taking ownership of the month-end and year-end close process, delivering a fully reconciled balance sheet, overseeing accruals, deferred income and fixed assets, and implementing strong financial control frameworks with appropriate audit trails and sign-off procedures.

The Interim Financial Controller will also enhance financial reporting and management accounting capabilities by establishing timely management accounts for budget holders, leading review meetings with stakeholders, improving cost allocation methodologies, and ensuring accurate financial analysis across programmes and projects.

The position will work closely with operational and budget-holding teams to improve billing processes, payroll reconciliations, income recognition, data quality, and the overall integrity of financial information within Business Central. The successful candidate will be expected to identify process improvements, resolve historic balance sheet issues, and support the organisation in developing a more robust and scalable finance function.

This role would suit a hands-on Financial Controller with strong technical accounting skills, balance sheet expertise, process improvement experience, and a track record of developing finance teams within a charity, not-for-profit, or project-based environment.
