The Function & TeamThe Credit & Risk team sits within the Group Risk & Compliance function and provides independent oversight across the Private Credit platform. Partnering with lending and portfolio management teams throughout the lending lifecycle, the team establishes and maintains the governance, frameworks and oversight that support consistent lending decisions, effective portfolio management and effective restructuring across all of Private Credit's lending strategies.
Credit & Risk team members work collaboratively across credit underwriting, portfolio monitoring, restructuring, recoveries and assurance, providing specialist expertise across all of Private Credit's lending strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with, and ultimately take ownership of, portfolio review processes in partnership with portfolio management teams, ensuring early identification of risk and emerging trends across all lending strategies.
- Exercise delegated authority for non-material credit requests, escalating appropriately where thresholds are exceeded.
- Contribute to watchlist and early warning indicator processes, flagging deteriorating credits for further action.
- Contribute case-level input to Lessons Learnt processes, covering challenged cases, watchlist trends and emerging risk themes.
- Partner with origination teams to evaluate new lending opportunities, providing credit expertise and challenge at the appropriate stage.
- Review credit papers ahead of submission from time to time, providing a clear recommendation to Credit Committee members.
- Build strong working relationships with origination and portfolio management teams to ensure credit input is embedded early and effectively.
- Prepare and present internal reporting materials on portfolio health, performance and emerging trends for senior stakeholders.
- Provide ad-hoc credit advisory support to portfolio management teams on existing positions as needed.
- Contribute portfolio-level insight and findings into wider Credit & Risk reporting.
- Identify and help implement improvements to credit processes, frameworks and monitoring tools.
- Drive efficiency through automation, reporting improvements and AI-enabled workflows.
- Contribute to ad-hoc credit projects and process initiatives where required.
- Significant experience in credit risk, credit analysis or portfolio management within a lending, private credit, or credit advisory environment.
- Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills, with the ability to review and challenge credit papers and identify key risks.
- Experience with portfolio monitoring or review processes, including identifying early signs of credit deterioration.
- Comfortable exercising judgement and holding delegated authority for credit decisions within defined parameters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reporting materials and provide credit recommendations to stakeholders.
- Educated to degree level.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, build effective relationships across teams, and constructively challenge origination and portfolio management colleagues.
- Specific experience in private credit, alternative lending or direct lending (as opposed to traditional bank lending).
- Exposure to mid-market/SME lending; familiarity with wholesale lending structures.
