About the team:
Investec Alternatives is building its off-balance sheet funds and funding capability as a strategic growth priority. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing business focused on developing capital-efficient investment solutions that meet evolving client needs while leveraging Investec's specialist expertise, deep client relationships and distinctive deal flow.

As a Portfolio Manager, you will play a key role in the management and growth of private credit investment strategies, overseeing capital deployment across a diverse portfolio of private credit investments. You will work closely with origination, private credit management and investor relations teams to ensure strong portfolio performance, disciplined risk management and exceptional stakeholder engagement.

What will I be doing? Manage a discrete portfolio of private credit investments, ensuring performance is aligned to investment objectives and risk-adjusted return targets.

Identify and assess new investment opportunities that support portfolio construction and long-term strategic objectives.

Prepare and present investment opportunities to Investment Committees and Valuation Committees.

Lead portfolio monitoring activities and oversee ongoing portfolio performance and optimisation.

Produce and present portfolio updates to investors, advisory committees and other key stakeholders.

Conduct market analysis to identify emerging trends, opportunities and risks within the private credit landscape.

Work alongside origination teams to undertake detailed credit analysis on prospective investments.

Collaborate with the Private Credit Management team to monitor existing investments and recommend portfolio actions where appropriate.

Manage and mitigate portfolio risks, ensuring compliance with investment mandates, regulatory requirements and investor guidelines.

Prepare performance commentary, quarterly updates and annual investor reporting materials.

Support the development of new investment strategies and contribute to the continued growth of assets under management.

Lead communications relating to portfolio restructurings, impairments, defaults and other material events.

What do I need to bring? A minimum of 5 years' experience in private credit, credit investing, lending, portfolio management or a related investment environment.

Relevant tertiary qualification.

Strong experience in portfolio construction, portfolio optimisation and investment management.

Exceptional credit analysis skills with the ability to evaluate complex investment opportunities.

Advanced financial modelling and valuation capabilities.

Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.

Strong understanding of private credit markets and portfolio risk management.

Knowledge of ESG and sustainability-related regulatory considerations within investment management.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

The ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to senior management, investors and committees.
