Portfolio & Asset Management, Wealth Management
We’re looking for an Associate Investment Manager to support our Investment Management team across a wide range of responsibilities, in a role designed to build you towards managing client portfolios of your own. If you’re serious about a career in investment management and want to learn the work properly, read on.
Why Saltus? Our mission is to improve everyone’s relationship with their wealth: to make it a positive force for their future and at the same time to prevent it being a source of anxiety. We want everyone who works at Saltus to be proud to work here, and to find fulfilment and meaning in the work that they do.
We are a successful, privately owned, LLP, with a number of offices in the South of England including London, Whiteley and Farnham. We are incredibly proud of our culture and work really hard to ensure that Saltus is a great place to work for our people, where they can have fun and grow in their career, with a passion for excellence and customer service.
Saltus is an independently owned financial planning and discretionary investment management house. We are dedicated to providing a high-quality service for private clients, trusts, and smaller institutions.
Saltus Partners was founded in 2004 and has grown organically and through a small number of carefully integrated acquisitions. Originally the business started out as an investment manager and has now developed the financial planning side of the offering, putting this at the forefront of the client relationship.
Today Saltus manages and advises on over £11 billion of client assets, acquired through a combination of organic business growth and corporate acquisitions.
Can you tell me more about the role? This is a role for someone with limited prior experience in investment management who wants to run client portfolios in time, and understands that the way to get there is to learn the work from the ground up.
You’ll work alongside our Investment Managers supporting a significant existing book of private clients, charities, trusts and corporate clients. Much of the role is preparation and follow-through – it is also how you build the judgement the job eventually requires. Over time, and as your qualifications progress, you’ll take on your own client relationships.
The role is not a certified function under the FCA’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime at the outset. It becomes one as you begin advising or managing client relationships in your own right, and we’ll support you through that transition.
What you’ll be doing- Preparing client meeting materials – valuations, performance and attribution, cash and income positions, agenda points
- Attending client meetings, taking notes and owning the follow-up actions through to completion
- Day-to-day portfolio administration: trade instructions, cash management, onboarding and transfers, CRM records
- Supporting Investment Managers in new prospect meetings and pitch preparation
- Participating in investment team meetings and building a deep understanding of the Saltus investment approach
- Communicating the investment team’s views to the wider business
- Contributing to written and video investment content for clients and a broader audience
- A year or two in a wealth management, platform, operations, paraplanning or client service role, or a strong graduate. We will train you
- Started, or committed to starting, the IMC, with an intention to progress to the CFA or CISI Level 7 Diploma
- Genuinely interested in markets and portfolio construction, and able to talk about why
- Accurate and highly organised — the work is detail-heavy and client-facing simultaneously
- Confident with clients and colleagues, and comfortable being the person who follows things up
- Takes personal accountability,…
