OverviewOur client is seeking a Policy and Advocacy Executive to join their Corporate Affairs and Sustainability function. This highly visible role supports the delivery of public affairs and advocacy activity, helping to protect and strengthen organisational reputation while shaping engagement with government, parliament, industry bodies, and key external stakeholders.
This position is ideal for a public affairs or policy professional who enjoys working at pace, building trusted relationships, and contributing to policy discussions in a complex, regulated, and high‑profile environment.
Responsibilities- Coordinate public affairs and advocacy activity, ensuring alignment across internal business areas and group-level government affairs teams.
- Manage governance processes, stakeholder tracking, and triage of public affairs requests to ensure consistent and timely engagement.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with government and political stakeholders through briefings, updates, and regular engagement.
- Draft high‑quality written materials including policy briefings, consultation responses, speeches, correspondence, and stakeholder communications.
- Organise government‑facing events, visits, and engagement activity aligned to strategic objectives.
- Support international and diplomatic engagement, including market access, regulatory compliance, and route or operational considerations.
- Monitor political, regulatory, and public policy developments and provide clear insight to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain relationships with industry bodies, trade associations, and external partners.
- Provide government affairs support during periods of disruption or crisis, including out‑of‑hours assistance when required.
- Demonstrable experience or strong understanding of government and public affairs.
- Knowledge of how government departments operate and how policy decisions are made.
- Experience engaging with political, regulatory, or industry stakeholders.
- Background in planning and coordinating communications or engagement activity.
- Experience producing clear, accurate, and persuasive written materials for senior or external audiences.
- Exposure to fast‑paced, consumer‑facing or operational environments; experience in regulated or unionised settings is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex issues.
- Strong organisational and planning capability, able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to adapt quickly in evolving situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and credibility rapidly.
- High attention to detail, resilience under pressure, and a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
- Awareness of current affairs, political developments, and the wider media environment.
- Hybrid working model with a minimum of four days per week based at the organisation’s UK headquarters near Heathrow.
- Occasional out‑of‑hours or weekend support may be required during periods of disruption.
