Role Description

The Government & Parliamentary Affairs Officer will play a central role in advancing CCDH’s UK policy objectives related to online safety and social media reform. The postholder will lead parliamentary engagement and stakeholder management and build strategic partnerships to amplify CCDH’s influence.

Reporting to the Senior Policy & Public Affairs Manager and working closely with the Head of Public Affairs, the role will combine traditional public affairs activity with coalition-building and stakeholder mobilisation to translate CCDH research into political impact. The role requires strong political acumen, excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to turn policy insight and research into measurable influence within parliament, government, and civil society.

Responsibilities

Parliamentary & Government Affairs
  • Support the development and delivery of CCDH’s UK policy goals related to social media, search engine and AI reform.
  • Foster and manage stakeholder relationships with MPs, Peers, special advisers, parliamentary staff, civil servants, and civil society partners.
  • Represent the organisation externally and take ownership of priority political and stakeholder relationships.
  • Host and coordinate parliamentary events, including convenings in Portcullis House and other parliamentary venues.
  • Monitor key legislation, debates, ministerial speeches, government and departmental announcements, select committee inquiries, APPGs, party conferences, and other relevant public affairs activities.
  • Brief MPs and their staff for parliamentary interventions.
  • Research, draft, and contribute to written materials including policy briefings, stakeholder outreach materials, consultation responses, white papers, testimony submissions, and regulatory engagement documents.
  • Maintain and develop a database of key contacts, record meetings, and track engagement metrics and political impact.
  • Support the formalisation and expansion of CCDH’s parliamentary engagement, including work with APPGs or other parliamentary influencing platforms.
  • Identify and leverage key media opportunities in cooperation with UK & EU Communications Lead
Partnerships, Coalitions & Advocacy
  • Using a capacity-building mindset, create, grow, and mobilise coalitions of civil society organisations, advocacy groups, community leaders, academics, and policy stakeholders to build credibility and leverage political influence.
  • Design and coordinate advocacy activations, policy round tables, events, and convenings (virtual and in-person) in support of research launches and key legislative moments.
  • Develop partnership materials, toolkits, briefings, and messaging guidance that empower allies to advocate for online safety, platform accountability, and a fact-based digital world.
  • Serve as a bridge between parliamentary activity and broader civil society engagement, ensuring CCDH’s research and policy priorities generate momentum beyond Westminster.
  • Support rapid response efforts by coordinating with partners and stakeholders around real-time developments, research publications, and emerging digital harms issues.
  • Collaborate across CCDH teams—including research, communications, development and campaigns—to align partnerships with public affairs messaging and maximise real-world impact.
  • Represent CCDH at coalition meetings, parliamentary round tables, public events, conferences, and stakeholder forums to advance organisational priorities and foster durable partnerships.
  • Act as a subject matter resource on UK tech policy, political messaging, and the legislative process, supporting colleagues and partners in understanding political pathways to reform.
Person Specification
  • 7+ years work experience in relevant field
  • Demonstrable experience in UK public affairs, parliamentary engagement, or government relations
