Location: Greater London

Our client, a dynamic organisation within London’s Public Sector, is seeking a skilled Permit Officer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is integral to ensuring the organisation’s compliance with crucial legislation such as the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all associated codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring compliance with the London Permit Scheme and related legislation.
  • Representing the organisation at public inquiries, meetings, and committee sessions, providing technical information and producing reports.
  • Processing notice/permit applications to ensure they meet relevant codes of practice and that activities are coordinated within the borough highway network.
  • Assessing street works licence applications for accuracy and ensuring proper documentation and payment processing.
  • Issuing Fixed Penalty Notices and preparing related reports for senior officers.
  • Maintaining accurate records in the Street Works/Permit Register and reporting any errors to applicants.
  • Designing and producing technical reports as evidence for issuing penalty charges and improvement notices to statutory undertakers.
  • Liaising with various departments and external stakeholders, coordinating works programmes, and ensuring effective communication regarding activities on the network.
Job Requirements
  • Experience in street works and a solid understanding of NRSWA.
  • Proven ability to ensure compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.
  • Strong organisational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively represent the organisation at various meetings and produce comprehensive reports.
  • Proficiency in using street works software and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to issue and manage Fixed Penalty Notices in accordance with legislation and organisational policies.
  • Experience in designing and producing technical reports related to highway network activities.
  • Understanding of financial processes related to permit and licence applications.
