Location: Greater London
Housing Assessment Officer – Brent, London (Temporary, Full Time)
RoleWe are looking for an experienced Housing Assessment Officer to join a Housing Needs & Support team in Brent on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will assess housing applications, determine priority and eligibility, manage the housing register and support the allocation of social housing across the borough.
Responsibilities- Assess applications to the housing register under relevant housing legislation and local allocation policies.
- Investigate applicants' circumstances through interviews, verification checks, home visits and liaison with external agencies.
- Determine eligibility, qualification and housing priority; issue decision letters and advise applicants of review rights.
- Manage the administration of the choice‑based lettings scheme, including property advertising, bidding activity and allocations.
- Make nominations and allocations to available social housing properties to minimise void periods and maximise stock utilisation.
- Prepare reports and referrals for medical assessments, social care services and housing panels where required.
- Handle enquiries, complaints and correspondence from applicants, MPs, councillors, solicitors and partner organisations.
- Previous experience within a Housing Allocations, Housing Register, Lettings, Homelessness or Housing Needs team in a Local Authority or Housing Association setting.
- Knowledge of housing allocations, housing register processes or social housing lettings.
- Experience managing complex housing cases and making decisions in line with legislation and policy.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain decisions clearly to customers and stakeholders.
- Strong IT skills, including experience with housing management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality customer‑focused services.
Working hours:
Full Time – 36 hours per week
Length of contract: 3‑month contract
Rate: £28.19 per hour (LTD company rate). PAYE equivalent £24.03 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.
£250 referral bonus for every successfully referred candidate.
