This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy local authority, helping to improve housing standards across the private rented sector while taking enforcement action where necessary.

The Role

As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you'll manage a varied caseload involving inspections, investigations and enforcement across privately rented properties. Investigate complaints relating to housing conditions in the private rented sector.
Conduct HMO inspections and support licensing functions.
Prepare and serve statutory notices under relevant housing legislation.
Take appropriate enforcement action, including civil penalties where required.
Manage cases from investigation through to resolution.
Attend court and tribunal hearings where necessary.
Build positive relationships with landlords, tenants and internal stakeholders.

About You

To be considered, you'll ideally have:

Recent experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer within a Local Authority.
Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS and housing enforcement legislation.
Experience serving statutory notices and progressing enforcement cases.
The ability to manage a busy and varied caseload independently.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Experience dealing with unlawful eviction cases, statutory nuisance investigations or wider Environmental Health responsibilities would be advantageous but isn't essential.
