Compensation and Contract
Salary range:
Grade 7 (£38,256 – £39,276) per annum, plus fantastic benefits.
Contract:
Permanent. Hours of work: 36 hours per week.

South London Coroner’s Court, Davis House, Robert Street, Croydon, CR0 1QQ
. This role is court‑based and there are no opportunities for home working.
Coroners investigate certain deaths that are deemed to be unnatural, violent, or unknown in cause. The South London Coroner’s Court serves the four London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Croydon and Sutton, with Croydon Council as the lead authority responsible for providing resources and staffing.
The RoleProvide compassionate and professional support to bereaved families while supporting the judicial work of the Coroner's Court. As a Resource Officer, you will coordinate hearings and inquests, prepare court documentation, maintain accurate case records, liaise with partner agencies and support the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the Court. You will also assist with financial administration, including raising purchase orders, and collaborate with colleagues to respond to changing priorities and operational demands.
Qualificationsand Skills
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately under pressure.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills, with the confidence to deal sensitively and professionally with bereaved families and members of the public.
- Strong IT skills and experience maintaining accurate electronic records and producing high‑quality correspondence.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and a wide range of partner organisations, including the Metropolitan Police, legal professionals, medical practitioners and funeral directors.
- Good judgement and initiative, with the ability to resolve issues independently.
- Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm, compassionate and professional when dealing with distressing and sensitive situations.
- A flexible approach, with a willingness to support colleagues and contribute to the wider work of a small, busy team, including the assistance of ushering in court when required.
